In all societies with highly developed economies, labor and socialist political parties have played a pivotal electoral role, except one-the United States. Despite overheated claims to the contrary, socialism is conspicuously marginal in the US. In this talk, Maarten van Ginderachter, professor of history at Antwerp University, will compare the importance of socialism in Europe with the absence of socialism in the U.S.
